Welcome To Extreme: The Launch Event

03 November 2015

Better Extreme is here. London’s largest indoor skate park marked its opening with an exciting weekend of skating and climbing events.

Based in Mayesbrook Park, between Barking and Dagenham, Better Extreme has been designed as a bold, modern and challenging new home for skating and climbing in East London. The launch event brought together a growing community of skaters and climbers of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy the state-of-the-art facilities.

The Event

On Saturday, Better Extreme welcomed over 200 skaters, BMXers and spectators from across London and beyond to enjoy the skatepark and compete against each other, whilst Sunday saw over 60 climbers of all abilities take on the challenge of the Extreme climbing centre.

The team were delighted to host such an enthusiastic and talented crowd across the weekend, all of whom were keen to discover everything that Extreme has to offer. Extreme team member Shabaz Hussain said “It’s fantastic to see so many people at the Park, getting involved, meeting people and enjoying it - that’s what we want Extreme to be about”.

The Winners

The Saturday event was soundtracked by an on-site DJ, setting a great tempo and atmosphere for the competitive jams, which featured many skaters and riders eager to show off their skills.

The jams were judged by a range of experts from the London skating scene, including Mike Woods (boqer123), Husayn Smart (Extreme, House of Vans London) and Robbie Osborne (Extreme) - with awesome action across many skill and age categories, including Under 16s Street and beginners BMX contests.

The winners, deemed by the judges to have shown the smoothest and most exciting combination of skills, were:

Lennox Gambin and Konnor Christie (BMX)

Alex Griffiths (Under 16s Skateboard Bowl Jam) Runner Up: Rio Oibryne

Daniel Dolan (Over 16s Skateboard Bowl Jam)

Oscar Oneim (Over 16s Street Impact Zone Winner)

Dendriss Jamal (Over 16s Overall Stand Out Skater)

Reflecting on the competitions, judge Husayn Smart said, “The standard was really high - there was a really good atmosphere and everyone got into the competition”.
